I was preparing a talk for some headteachers and thinking about the bottom line, the minimum entitlement, the art programme of study in a nutshell. It was hard to find the minimum prescribed content and idle speculation led to wondering if it could be published on twitter. It can (see below). I guess the fact that I can tweet it, forces us to recognise that this programme of study is genuinely different from all the others, because it really doesn’t attempt to tell us what we should do. It is more or less content free. Reading it, it would be hard to make a case that anything has to be included (except sketchbooks in KS2 perhaps), or that there are some things that have to be excluded. A headteacher said to me that, as far as she could see, it meant “Just do it and enjoy it”. She could be right.
